We will again have coed 11v11 teams on Sunday and Thursday in the Minneapolis Parks league. The Sunday league has a few options of play, so the details below will vary a little by each. The email you receive that directs you to this page will certainly note which Sunday division you are in if you are playing Sundays. 11v11 soccer is by nature more complex and competitive. Team skills will range a bit as there is not a parity level system deployed by the league. Many are used to CSC where there are 30-50 teams in the league and like skilled teams can be sorted. That does not exist in Minneapolis Parks so we strive to have all our players at moderate or higher skill level.
If you do not have the fundamentals of full field soccer or any experience in it, you should not join an 11v11 team as it will not be the best of experience for yourself or likely opponents and teammates. If you played 11v11 as a teen or since, then I am sure you'll be fine. Our teams have been around a long time because people like each other, we're organized and we find fun in each of the games we play.
The per player placement fee is $85 per team, see next steps.
1 game per week | Week of August 18 through October 27
9 games in total (7 guaranteed, a weather cancellation may not always be re-scheduled but the league does attempt to usually
45 minute halves (no stoppage time usually)
1-3 referees per game (there is a staff shortage, if you'd like to ref in the league we can connect you as they do pay well)
Game times vary by division of play, see below. Locations are static, you play only where your division is aligned to.
Sunday mornings at Parade Stadium 8am, 945a, 1115am, 115pm start times
Sunday afternoons at Parade 3pm, 430p, 615p and 830pm start times
Sunday evenings at Neiman Sports Complex 315p, 5p, 645p and 830pm start times
Thursday evenings at Neiman Sports Complex 6p and 745pm start times
The above information is generalized so this page can support all of our teams. If you are unclear which day/team you are playing with please do not hesitate to reach out.
#1 Pay your $85 placement fee as soon as possible. Since we pay 100% up front to the league, we desire for you to do so too. We can accommodate a few delays in payment but even those need to have a deposit submitted. 50% minimum is due to hold your spot and the balance would be due two weeks after the deposit.
Submit using any option on payment page. It helps us if you use a fee free method like Zelle, Paypal, Venmo, Apple Pay, Google Pay etc. You can use a credit card and pay the full league dues on our league fees store here.
#2 Please download the app Spond, and use the code associated to the format you're being rostered for:
Coed = BUPTP
All players are bound by our Player Charter which in many more words just asks you to be a good teammate, be sure you RSVP in advance accurately and that we are not in a position to refund players who drop. This club is voluntarily managed and does not have any paid staff. Volunteers can receive perks of course like reduced rate playing, gear and more.
Prior to the first game (week of Aug 18), you will be added to a sub-group on Spond and a team chat. The match invites are issued on Spond, to which you will RSVP to each of those 72hrs in advance or further. If last minute issues arise you are required to notify your teammates by chat. More info will be provided by Spond including an optional shirts order form at a later date.
*PLACEMENT FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE - WE PAY UP FRONT FOR THE TEAM AND ARE NOT IN A POSITION TO REFUND PLAYERS BECAUSE OF CHANGE OF INTEREST, INJURY, OR OTHERWISE. THE ONLY TIME A REFUND OCCURS IS WHEN THE LEAGUE PROVIDES A REFUND SUCH AS WHEN COVID HIT AND WE COULD NOT PLAY.
Please reach us at ryan@grayduckssoccer.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Players are required to wear shin guards. Any color shorts and socks are okay, though see below for common colors. Players are required to have both team color shirts (ROYAL BLUE and Light GRAY/White). We routinely place orders for new shirts, so keep an eye out for ordering windows.
Common colors for socks and shorts are royal blue, gray, white, and black.
Jewelry is permitted but should not be loose. A ref could ask you to tape it if they feel it's a hazard. Watches and fitbits must be covered up.
Teams can pursue their own practices, but adult soccer tends to just be games only as people have limited ability to participate in extra curriculars. There is not a coach either. Teams are expected to work together, and often team captains emerge to help lead the team through the game strategically.
A club admin is always involved in teams to ensure the teams have what they need for a fun, competitive and successful season of play.
The spring and summers are busy in Minnesota and it is expected people will miss a couple games. It is how you go about missing a game that matters. All attendance RSVPs are due 48hrs or more in advance. Any changes to the RSVP need to me additionally noted in the team chat as a change to the invite is not sufficient to alert the team that a drop has occurred.
Anyone who no shows or consistently drops last minute is subject to being removed from the team without refund. The leagues are expensive and that sort of action has negative impacts on experiences and safety. We do a lot of the work to make it so all you have to do is RSVP yes or no, and show up to play and have fun when you're a yes.
We strive to build our teams to have a balance between up top, mid and defense. The only assured role on a team is the goalkeeper. Strategically we want our best defender as center backs, and our ball distributors in the center mid.
Teams have always worked together to balance out who players where. There tends to be more interest in forward than other spots, so we do not permit people to ONLY play striker. If that is all you want, then playing adult soccer may be a challenge for you in general. Not saying forwards wont ever get that chance, but teams need to share the role is all.
All players are expected to share playing time, and there are unlimited subs permitted. Subbing is on the fly and like hockey in nature of it should be shorter shifts and faster pace of place. Players average around 60 minutes of play during each game.
No one is permitted to play full matches in our club. Some players may earn extra playing time grace from their teammates if they play a role others don't want to play e.g. center defense. If players are not being effective and they're tired, teammates can and should call them off the field to get fresh legs. Anyone refusing to share playing time equally will be in violation of our playing charter.
Only Neiman Sports Complex offers assured complimentary parking onsite. Parade Stadium has paid parking outside of it's front gate or you can pay for an annual parking pass with Minneapolis Parks and Rec to save money. Otherwise most people park at the Parade Ice Garden on the far side of the field for no cost and walk to the field entrance. We have done that for many years, but each year our fear is they'll make that lot paid parking too, so we're just not guaranteeing anything here about it.
