7v7 coed and men's teams within the CSC League

Introduction

This 7v7 format of soccer is great for anyone from competitive through rec level of play. We build our teams with like skilled players, and the league will then place our teams in one of their parity levels of play. Typically there are 3-5 divisions within the league, so like skilled teams play against each other. The games are always on turf, and the league runs year round in 8 game sessions at a time. We strive to build and maintain teams who will have consistent rosters each season that will grow on and off the field, so please be sure you can commit to being a regular and ongoing member of a team.

Details

1 game per week | mid-April through mid-June| 8 games in total always

24 minute halves
1 referee per game

Games will start typically at  6:00 PM, 7:15 PM, 8:00 PM, 9:00 PM, 9:45 PM for weeknights teams (Sundays have an all day range (815a-945p)
Fields vary by the day, scroll down to see the likely fields to be used on your day of play

No games on holidays or +/- a few days of each federal holiday

**Bye weeks exist to provide breaks and ensure all teams play 8 games during the session)

The OUTDOOR per player placement fee is $97 per team unless otherwise specified, see next steps.

(Indoor rate Nov-April is $123+)

Season dates:

Sundays 6/22-8/31

Mondays 6/26-9/1

Tuesdays 6/24-9/2

Wednesdays 6/18-8/27

Thursdays 6/19-8/28

The above information is generalized so this page can support all of our teams. If you are unclear which day/team you are playing with please do not hesitate to reach out. Most all our teams wear cobalt/royal blue as primary, and white/light gray as backup. Some teams will have tertiary colors/kits if they've earned this privilege and sought those.

Next steps

#1 Pay for your spot. Since we pay 100% up front to the league, we desire for you to do so too. A minimum of 50% is required to hold your roster spot, and the balance is due 21 days before the league start date.

This can be paid by using any method noted on our payment page.  It helps us if you use a fee free method like Zelle, Paypal, Venmo, Apple Pay, Google Pay etc.

You can use a credit card and pay the full league dues on our league fees store here. (Coed or Mens)

#2 Please download the app Spond, and use the code associated to the format you're being rostered for:

Mens = MELVH | Coed = BUPTP

#3 Prior to the first game, an invite will be issued to your email from the CSCsports TopScore platform. The team password if prompted is always "soccer" and you will need to have a CSC account and waiver signed. All match invites come from the platform to your email to which you will RSVP against weekly. You can log into the platform and RSVP in advance too and sync the games to your calendar. Team chat is hosted on Spond, and we do not have the ability at this time to issue match invites for 7v7 play on Spond. If you are NEW to 7v7 in CSC you will benefit from this blog article if you get confused in this step.

All players are bound by our Player Charter which in many more words just asks you to be a good teammate, be sure you RSVP in advance accurately and that we are not in a position to refund players who drop. This club is voluntarily managed and does not have any paid staff. Volunteers can receive perks of course like reduced rate playing, gear and more. All playing fees are non-refundable unless we are able to replace your spot. What we pay the league is non-refundable to us.

Levels of play

The league has multiple divisions of play, however they are not available to register for those specific divisions. They have a formula for how they build divisions based on data and testing new teams against established teams to determine a performance baseline. This helps ensure a better playing experience and higher team retention in the league.

We roster teams with three levels in mind, and we do not roster players who have zero soccer experience. League play is NOT the place to learn how to play the game. It's just too fast and contains too many people with soccer IQ, mixed experience levels and beyond entry level difficulty. There are entry level soccer orgs like GOsoccer dot org out there as well as pickup soccer outlets to start with.

If you are unsure of your level, then you need to email Ryan with your playing background. You will not get to choose your level of play, your background and abilities that are provided will determine where we place you. Day of week that you're available will be considered but there may not be a match. Coed teams are notoriously short on female interest, so non-female identifying players will be at a disadvantage for placement regardless of where you seek out a coed team.

Background

We have over 30 teams across 5 days of play (Sunday-Thursday) in the league hosted by Cities Sports Connection (CSC). We are not related to their business by any means, we are the Club and they are the League. Most of the 340 teams that make up CSC are not part of clubs, though there are several clubs and we are certainly the largest. The league has hidden divisions of play to which teams climb and fall between season over season. The league hosts 5 sessions a year, and most of our teams play 3-5 sessions. This is a 7v7 format always and on turf, with some venues indoor year round and some venues only used when it's the outdoor season.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at ryan@grayduckssoccer.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Players are required to wear shin guards. Any color shorts and socks are okay, though see below for common colors. Players are required to have both team color shirts (ROYAL BLUE and Light GRAY/White). We routinely place orders for new shirts, so keep an eye out for ordering windows.

Common colors for socks and shorts are royal blue, gray, white, and black.

Jewelry is permitted but should not be loose. A ref could ask you to tape it if they feel it's a hazard. Watches and fitbits must be covered up.

Teams can pursue their own practices, but adult soccer tends to just be games only as people have limited ability to participate in extra curriculars. There is not a coach either. Teams are expected to work together, and often team captains emerge to help lead the team through the game strategically.
A club admin is always involved in teams to ensure the teams have what they need for a fun, competitive and successful season of play.

The spring and summers are busy in Minnesota and it is expected people will miss a couple games. It is how you go about missing a game that matters. All attendance RSVPs are due 48hrs or more in advance. Any changes to the RSVP need to me additionally noted in the team chat as a change to the invite is not sufficient to alert the team that a drop has occurred.

Anyone who no shows or consistently drops last minute is subject to being removed from the team without refund. The leagues are expensive and that sort of action has negative impacts on experiences and safety. We do a lot of the work to make it so all you have to do is RSVP yes or no, and show up to play and have fun when you're a yes.

We strive to build our teams to have a balance between up top, mid and defense. The only assured role on a team is the goalkeeper. Strategically we want our best defender as center backs, and our ball distributors in the center mid.

Teams have always worked together to balance out who players where. There tends to be more interest in forward than other spots, so we do not permit people to ONLY play striker. If that is all you want, then playing adult soccer may be a challenge for you in general. Not saying forwards wont ever get that chance, but teams need to share the role is all.

All players are expected to share playing time, and there are unlimited subs permitted. Subbing is on the fly and like hockey in nature of it should be shorter shifts and faster pace of place. Players average around 32 minutes of play during each game.

No one is permitted to play full matches in our club. Some players may earn extra playing time grace from their teammates if they play a role others don't want to play e.g. center defense. If players are not being effective and they're tired, teammates can and should call them off the field to get fresh legs. Anyone refusing to share playing time equally will be in violation of our playing charter.
