"Playing for the Gray Ducks in Paris and Las Vegas has helped me transition from being a closeted college athlete to an open LGBT athlete. I have made many friendships in a short time that I cherish. "
"Everybody on the teams I have played for are welcoming, interested in meeting you as an authentic person, and share your love for sport. For those that have never traveled to play in athletic competitions, try it out with the Gray Ducks. They will make sure you have a great sporting experience and an even better time off the field."
Get in touch with us via this form, email, or message to discuss getting involved. Team planning is done throughout the year 2-8 weeks in advance of each session depending on how long the lead time is for the league itself, most leagues require teams register 4-12 weeks in advance.
Whether you are highly experienced in soccer, or you have some rust to shake off we have teams that fit your ambitions. Our competitive teams are very skilled, and our rec teams are an intermediate level. New to the game? Join us for outdoor open soccer or a super rec league league.
With more than 50 active teams in the metro, we have affinity squads and mixed teams in various leagues, levels, days, formats and more. Placement on a team is a customized experience so you can play with whom, where, when and at the level you most desire.
Our club is inclusive of all LGBTQ+ persons, to which there are some teams that are nearly 100% queer, and in many cases our queer community plays on non-affinity teams as all our teams are safe and welcoming spaces. For most, it's important to many to play at the level, day, location, etc as the driving factor. We do not presently have the volume of interest to host internal leagues, but we are seeking to establish regular community playing opportunities.
One of our affinity teams is Team Trans which inclusive of persons who are trans or non-binary and want to play among peers. Many transgender persons play within respective binaries, however this team exists to build a community among those who want such community. This affinity team launched in 2023 in an effort to grow this playing community and the name/idea of it has room to evolve over time.
While we're a queer operated club, we are filled with great allies and friends of many backgrounds and identities. For many it's desired to play among fellow LGBTQ folks, yet for many it's not as important. We're happy to accommodate everyone as their authentic selves, so feel free to customize your soccer journey with us.
The Gray Ducks are a highly inclusive adult soccer club based in the Minneapolis-St Paul area of Minnesota. The Gray Ducks are queer owned and operated, and this sub group creates a safe space for players to come together. We serve more than 225 LGBTQIA+ community members with year round soccer typically at the level they desire, on the day and format they desire too. Sport remains a challenging and at times unsafe space for queer persons, so this work is important for our community. All our players subscribe to our player charter which strives to ensure safe, inclusive and fun playing environments.
Do you identify as straight? That's okay! We are inclusive of all genders and orientations, and you just happen to be on our page that is dedicated to growing the game of soccer among our queer community. Please join our main Facebook group or email us to get involved. However, if you do not support equal rights for all LGBTQ+ persons, our club is not a fit for you.
Gray Ducks Soccer teams partake in LGBTQ+ soccer tournaments nationally and internationally, as well as form teams locally to play in leagues year round. We would like to consult with you as to what playing opportunities are most suitable. Email Ryan at ryan@grayduckssoccer.com to explore the right fit for you.

" I have spoken with multiple teammates about my experiences playing collegiate soccer, following a head injury that limits my aerial abilities and also identifying as gay. Yet being a soccer player has always been a key component to my identity. Playing for the Gray Ducks has allowed me to continue playing quality soccer and traveling to tournaments, but now I get to compete whilst being open about who I am. I hope that the publicity of the Gray Ducks and the stories of its members shepherds in a new inclusive sports culture for all people, irrespective of their ethnicity, beliefs, disability status, sex, sexual orientation, and/or gender orientation." - Player Identifying as Gay
"I think the thing that I want people to recognize (that maybe they don't always notice) about Ryan's work is how intentional he has been in creating the community and club we have. He goes out of his way to create expectations and policies that are clearly articulated, fair, and with inclusion in mind, which I think people often times don't recognize how important those small decisions are in the grand scheme of the club and its success as an inclusive community." - Player Identifying as Gay
"I never thought I would have so many gay friends. I am also proud to say that and not be afraid of what others might think. Before joining (Maki United, TC Jacks) the Gray Ducks, I did not know much about the LGBT community. After years of playing I now have a better understanding of the culture and the hardships they face. I feel that as an Ally, it is my duty to stand and support my teammates and friends whenever I see discrimination on and off the field." - Player Identifying as an Ally
